SPARTANBURG Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A Duncan woman is accused of throwing bleach into her boyfriend’s eyes during a fight on New Year’s Day.

Barbara Chenell Davis, 55, was charged with second-degree domestic violence, according to a Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office report.

Deputies responded to the home Davis shares with the victim after an argument turned physical on Tuesday morning.

Davis threw bleach on the victim during the confrontation. The report says bleach splashed into the victim’s eyes, causing him to lose vision.

Davis told deputies she threw the bleach in self defense. She reportedly claimed she was cleaning the bathroom when they got into an argument and she threw the bleach at the victim after he threatened to assault her.

Deputies noted several discolored places on the sofa that appeared to be bleach stains along with a strong odor in the room where the alleged assault took place.

Davis’ shirt was torn. She reportedly told deputies the shirt was torn long ago and had no apparent injuries.

The report says Davis was arrested after providing inconsistent stories.

She also had no apparent injuries and the victim was so grossly intoxicated he could barely stand.

The victim refused medical treatment.

Davis was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center on Tuesday and released later that day, according to jail records.
