DWI driver hits Upstate man, plows into Waffle House, say police


GREENSBORO, N.C. (WSPA) — An Upstate man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit by a driver moments before she plowed into a Waffle House restaurant.

Greensboro Police Department identified the victim as Derrick Lavelle Anderson of Greenwood, S.C. 

Police say the driver, Kaitlyn Danielle Kennedy of Belews Creek, N.C. is charged with DWI, reckless driving and driving while license revoked.

WFMY reports Anderson was sent flying through the air when he was hit by Kennedy before she crashed into the business.

At least 15 people were at the restaurant. None were sitting at the table near the area where Kennedy’s SUV hit the building, according to the report.

Police say Anderson was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Police tell WFMY that he’s in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon. 

The crash remains under investigation.
