GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Taking pictures with the Easter bunny is a tradition for many families, but for some children, being in a busy mall is just too much.
Haywood Mall in Greenville is giving those families a special opportunity to help them enjoy the moment.
“We send them to everybody — grandparents, aunts and uncles, godparents.”
A mom of two was beaming with excitement — mixed with relief.
Her 4-year-old son has autism, making him sensitive to chaotic surroundings.
Before, when they tried to take a photo during normal mall hours, it was tough.
“He was crying and it was a real hard situation for him,” Lori Waller said.
But not this time.
Haywood Mall turned off the loud music, dimmed the lights, and let families color until it was their turn.
A mom of a 7-year-old drove nearly two hours for the experience.
“Because he won’t do it with the general public of the mall. He hasn’t for years. We finally came and got him to sit with Santa this year for the first time. They sent an email, ‘we’re coming back with the Easter bunny.’ I made the reservation immediately,” Kelly Hunter said.
Now, these families have the chance to take pictures with positive memories.
“The goal is to get that great one-on-one picture that you can cherish for the rest of your life,” Sarah Brocker with the Haywood Mall said.
Nearly 100 Simon-managed malls are doing this for families this Easter. They do this every Christmas as well.
