‘Elementary’ actress Liza J. Bennett teaching students in Greenville


Actress Liza J. Bennett, who currently stars in the CBS TV series “Elementary” is back in the Upstate.

The SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities graduate is teaching drama to students at her alma mater for the next two weeks. .     

She has appeared in the Academy Award winning film 12 Years a Slave and 5 Flights Up, starring Diane Keaton and Morgan Freeman. She has also acted on Broadway with Al Pacino in The Merchant of Venice.

Over the next two weeks, she will be offering acting tips to students and pieces of advice she’s picked up along the way. 

“Working with Al Pacino taught me humility,” Bennett says. “He walked into rehearsal and stayed this way for a week, with a copy of Shakespeare for Dummies in his hand. It helped me remember that all tools are valid.”

Other graduates from the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities include Wonza Johnson, currently starring in Broadway’s touring production of Hamilton, Brandon Michael Hall from the CBS show “God Friended Me” and Danielle Brooks from “Orange is the New Black.”
