Family members hosting toy drive for children spending Christmas without their parents

After six Upstate children suffered a tragedy a few weeks ago, their families are working to make sure they still find some cheer this Christmas.

At the end of October, the children’s father, Brandon Thomas, died at the age of 33. Their mother, Ashley Thomas, is in jail, charged with her husband’s murder.

“They’re still trying to digest everything…everything happened at once,” said their family member Shakeia Davidson.

With Christmas approaching, the childrens’ cousins Shakeia and Rodney Davidson wanted to step up to bring them Christmas cheer after a devastating event.

They’re asking the community to donate gifts for all six children. They are accepting donations now and hosting a toy drive and party for them on Sunday, Dec. 16.

“If they have it in their heart to be able to come out to this event, I think it’ll make the kids very happy,” Shakeia Davidson said.

The event will be held on Sunday, Dec. 16 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Elite Dance, 604 E. Buford Street in Gaffney.
