GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – A man has died after his moped was hit by a car according to Greenville Co. Coroner’s Office.

The crash happened on September 30 around 8:50 p.m.

The moped was traveling on Laurens Rd. when a car turning from Laurens Rd. on to East Washington St. hit it.

Ioannis George Tsanktakis, 46, of Lowndes Hill Rd. was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at Greenville Memorial Trauma Center.

He died from multiple blunt force injuries and the manner of death has been ruled and accident, according to the report..

An eyewitness said the driver of the car, Gabriel Martinez Perez, 60, failed to yield while making a left turn toward East Washington St., according to Greenville Police.

The moped driver was ejected to the roadway.

EMS and Fire Dept. personnel said the driver of the car smelled of alcohol.

Police say Perez is expected to be charged with Felony DUI with death and No State Driver’s License First Offense when he is released from the hospital.
