Fighting Parkinson’s with the arts and dance

For those living with Parkinson’s, movement becomes one of the patients greatest challenges. But experts say movement can really help these patients.

This week there will be three opportunities to learn more – including an in depth presentation Monday night at the Hangar at First Baptist in Spartanburg at 6:30 pm and a Parkinson’s ballet class Tuesday morning at 10 am at the Chapman Cultural Center. These events are free. Wednesday at the Greenville area Parkinson’s support group  the experts will also share their insights. The group meets from 2 to 3:30 at the University Center on Pleasantburg Drive.

Lisa Cox is a local patient and Parkinson’s advocate who helped bring Dave Iverson, an award winning journalist and David Leventhal, the creator and founder of Dance for Parkinson’s, Brooklyn, NY, who produced the award winning film on dance and parkinson’s called “Capturing Grace.”
