LYMAN, SC (WSPA) – Tyger River Fire Department officials said crews were called to Lyman Lake after a boat and a boathouse caught on fire Thursday evening.
According to Tyger River Fire Chief Jim Redd, crews were dispatched to a building fire in the 100 block of Lake Lyman Heights Road after receiving a call just before 5 p.m., which turned into a call for a boathouse fire with a boat inside.
When crews got on-scene around 5 p.m., the boathouse, the boat inside, as well as a pontoon boat tied up outside of the boathouse were on fire.
While crews were working to combat the fire on the boathouse and on the pontoon, the boat inside the boathouse floated out down the lake approximately five to six houses, where it caught another dock on fire.
A nearby neighbors’ boathouse to the initial fire was affected and caught on fire and had to be put out by crews.
Redd said the two boats and the initial boathouse were destroyed in the fire.
He said repairs will need to be made to the dock that caught on fire , as well as the neighboring boat house.
The total amount of damage was around $60,000.
Holly Springs and Lake Cunningham fire departments assisted in putting out the fire on land. Holly Springs and Tyger River fire crews also had boats in the water to help with the operation.
The fire was put out from all locations around 7 p.m.
Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office officials are investigating the fire because of the multiple properties involved.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.
Redd said the Arson Investigation Team was called to the scene once the fire was cleared, but has not yet released any report.
