FL man dies in crash in Haywood Co., NC Highway Patrol says

HAYWOOD COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – North Carolina Highway Patrol said a Florida man died in a crash in Haywood County on Thursday evening.

According to highway patrol, the crash happened on Summit Drive just after 5 p.m.

Troopers said William George Newman, 73, of Lantana, Fla., was operating a 2015 Hyundai SUV on Summit Drive when he went off the right side of the road and crashed into an embankment.

Newman’s vehicle then overturned and went down an embankment before coming to a stop.

Troopers said he was not wearing his seat belt and was partially ejected during the crash.

According to the release, investigators determined that speed was a factor in the crash.
