Fleetwood Manor Apartment shooting victim mourned, suspect still at large

An Upstate family is mourning the loss of their loved one while the search continues for the shooter.

Greenville County deputies responded to Fleetwood Manor Apartments off Augusta Road shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a gunshot victim in the parking lot.

Deputies found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The victim identified as 21-year-old Jamell Shikeem-Shakeya Wingfield of Piedmont.

Wingfield was taken to the hospital where he died in surgery.

On Sunday, candles were lit, posters were hung and balloons were released in memory of Wingfield.

“Energetic… real. He was the realest boy, I swear. Nobody can take that away from him, ever. Ever.” said Wymecka Smith, one of Wingfield’s friends.

Deputies said Sunday that there are no suspects in custody.

An autopsy is scheduled Monday, Jan. 28.

Community activist Bruce Wilson is calling on the community to speak up if they know who’s responsible for Wingfield’s death.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office at 864-271-5210 or Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.

A GoFundMe has been started to help cover Wingfield’s funeral cost, click here for more information.
