ASHEVILLE, NC (WSPA) — City officials say several roads along the Swannanoa River in Asheville are closed due to flooding.

Drivers are urged to use caution and avoid impacted areas.

The following roads are closed:

  • Swannanoa River Road
  • Sweeten Creek Road between Swan and Reed streets in Biltmore Village
  • Thompson Street
  • Azalea Road from U.S. 70 to Swannanoa River Road
  • Riverside Drive near the train trestle, near 350 Riverside Drive.

City of Asheville says Carrier Park is also closed.

Heavy rains have caused the Swannanoa River to rise above flood stage.

Asheville city crews continue to monitor streets and set up barricades as flooding occurs.

Drivers are warned not to drive around barricades or through high water.

According to Asheville Fire Department, a car can float in one inch of water and be carried away by two inches of rushing water. The fire department tweeted  that several city streets had that much water as of Wednesday morning.
