FLORENCE, SC (WSPA) – An airport public safety officer has died after being shot during a traffic stop at Florence Regional Airport.
According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the shooting happened Sunday morning.
The suspect involved in the shooting ran from the scene but was later taken into custody by Florence County deputies.
SLED identified the suspect as 37-year-old James Edward Bell.
Bell is being booked into the Florence County Detention Center.
SLED says the agency is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident. A spokesperson said SLED was notified just after 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
