Fmr. detention center officer charged with sexual misconduct with an inmate

NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents arrested a former detention center officer in Newberry County on Wednesday for alleged sexual activities with an inmate at the facility back in 2003.

According to the SLED release, Rebecca Carol Adams, 41, was charged with first-degree sexual misconduct with an inmate.

In the warrant narrative, Adams engaged in sexual activities with an inmate from March 24, 2003 and July 15, 2003.

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office requested that SLED investigate the case on Aug.2, 2018.

The inmate who engaged in the activity with Adams filed a report with the sheriff’s office.

According to the affidavit, the inmate was transferred to Greenwood County Detention Center in July 2003, and Adams was listed as a visitor of the inmate on visitation logs at the detention center.

Adams was booked into the Newberry County Detention Center.
