Fmr. detention officer accused of giving inmates meth, cellphones

PICKENS COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A former Pickens Co. Detention Center officer is accused of giving inmates meth, tobacco and cell phones, according to a report from SC Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Zachary Keith Blanton, 23, is charged with Misconduct in Office and Furnishing Contraband to Prisoners.

Warrants say it happened between Jan 7. and Feb. 6 while he was working as a detention officer for the Pickens Co. Sheriff’s Office.

The Pickens Co. Sheriff’s Office says Sheriff Rick Clark asked for SLED’s help in he investigation.

They say Blanton was fired last Wednesday night for violation of Sheriff’s Office policies.

He was arrested and taken into custody by SLED agents. He is being detained at Oconee Co. Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.

Blanton was hired on June 18, 2017 and assigned to the detention center.
