ABBEVILLE Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A former Abbeville County Detention Center officer is accused of providing contraband to inmates.

William John Cole, 28, is charged with misconduct in office and three counts each of possessing and furnishing contraband to an inmate.

The S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) says the agency launched an investigation at the request of the Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office.

Arrest warrants say Cole confessed to providing contraband to three inmates between Aug. 19 and Sept. 25 while working as a detention center officer.

The Eighth Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute the case.
