Fmr. Laurens Co. employee accused of embezzlement

LAURENS COUNTY, SC (WSPA) –  State authorities arrested a former Laurens County employee for allegedly diverting county funds for her personal use.

Jamie Renee Masters, 50, was charged with embezzlement of public funds.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents investigated the case at the request of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.

Masters was the benefits coordinator.

The Laurens County administrator said Masters was placed on administrative leave when there was a suspicion of missing funds earlier this year.

Masters reportedly resigned from her position a few days later.

An arrest warrant states that Masters embezzled less than $10,000 of public funds between August 2017 and April 2018.

Masters was booked into the Laurens County Detention Center.

Jail officials say she was released on a $4,000 bond.
