POLK Co., N.C. (WSPA) — The Foothills Humane Society hopes to end over crowding with adoption specials and spay and neuter vouchers.
The rescue is currently overrun with cats and dogs.
They have nearly 200 cats and kittens in foster care and the shelter.
At one point, the shelter had to double up dogs in kennels.
Foothills Humane Society says over crowding makes the animals anxious. It also poses more challenges for the no-kill shelter that takes in every animal brought to them.
During the month of August, the rescue will have lower priced adoptions. Cats and kittens can be adopted for $10. The adoption fee for adult dogs is $20, while puppies are $100.
The voucher — for spaying and neutering of the animals– is good for Polk County, Campobello, Landrum and Gowensville residents.
Veterinarians in Polk County and Landrum are participating in the spaying and neutering voucher program.
Prices for the spaying and neutering vouchers are also cheaper with cats being $10, dogs $25 and Pitbull and Pitbull mixes are free.
Foothills Humane will also have another adoption event with low prices Aug. 17 and 18.
