(WSPA) — A seven-mile section of the Appalachian Trail near Hot Springs, N.C. is closed as crews battle a forest fire.

On Tuesday morning, a spokesperson for the U.S. Forest Service said the fire was at least 25 acres. Crews were assessing the fire. An update was expected after the briefing.

The Appalachian Trail is closed between Garenflo Gap to the Hot Springs trailhead.

Around 20 firefighters battled the fire on Monday, which was moving down slope towards Highway 209.
