Foster parent accused of child sex crimes in Greenville Co.

GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – Greenville County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested a man, who was a foster parent, with child sex crimes.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, Darrell Lowell Girardeau, 66, was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Sheriff’s Office officials said an investigation began on Feb. 20 after investigators learned of allegations of Girardeau having inappropriate physical contact with a child under the age of 16 years old.

According to the release, Girardeau was the victim’s foster parent at the time of the incident.

Investigators said the Girardeau inappropriately touched the child on several occasions between July 29, 2015 and March 2, 2016.

According to the release, Girardeau has reportedly been a foster parent to roughly 30 kids.

A records check through South Carolina Law Enforcement Division show that Girardeau was arrested on two counts first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor in 2016, but those charges were later dismissed in November of 2017.

Girardeau was also arrested on a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in January 2018. That charge is still pending.

Anyone who may have experienced similar incidents with Girardeau is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Greenville at 23-CRIME.
