Fugitive who escaped from U.S. Marshals in Greenville captured


UPDATE: U.S. Marshals Service said Christopher Coward was taken into custody by Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers in the Operation Intercept Fugitive Task Force.

A U.S. Marshals Office PIO said Coward had been living in a transitional facility when deputies learned he broke the terms of that living situation.

Deputies arrived around 3:30 p.m. to arrest Coward in the 1600 block of Easley Bridge Road, which is the address for Deal Mart Food Bargains.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and their K9 unit helped secure a perimeter. 

Coward was found behind the Deal Mart around 6:40 p.m.

According to a news release, Coward will be processed at the county detention center and will appear before a federal magistrate judge on Friday.

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – The U.S. Marshals Service is currently searching for a wanted fugitive considered armed and dangerous who escaped from custody Thursday in West Greenville.

According to a news release, U.S. Marshals are searching for Christopher Coward, who ran escaped custody in the Highway 123 and South Washington Avenue area.

Coward has since been charged with escape.

He is described as being 6-foot-2 inches tall, weighs around 150 to 170 pounds and has long dark hair and a beard.

Coward was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie.

Anyone who sees Coward is asked to call 911 or call local law enforcement.
