Funeral & procession for Asheville fire chief

ARDEN, N.C. (WSPA) -- A local fire chief will be laid to rest.

Richard Sales, chief of Reynolds Volunteer Fire Department, died Sunday from injuries he suffered in a wreck on Interstate 40 near Statesville, N.C.

Chief Sales was headed to a conference to accept an award on behalf of his department.

The 52-year-old had served most of his life with Reynolds VFD. He had been fire chief of the department for 10 years at the time of his death.

Chief Sales leaves behind two children and his parents.

He’s remembered for his love of his family and community, according to an obituary

A procession of fire trucks brought him home to Asheville earlier this week.

The funeral service will start at 10 a.m. at Biltmore Church in Arden.

Following the service, a procession will take Chief Sales to the cemetery at Gashes Creek Baptist Church in Asheville.

The procession route is as follows:
Exit church and travel Clayton Road to NC 191 (Brevard Road). Follow to the Blue Ridge Parkway and head north. Take the exit onto US 74 (Charlotte Highway). The procession will travel east to Charles A Lytle Lane (the road that turns beside Reynolds FD), the procession will pause and allow Engine 9 to escort Chief Sales through the bays of Reynolds FD. The procession will pick back up and will then go up Rocket Drive and then back to US 74 (Charlotte Highway). It will travel west to the I-40 East on ramp, also known as Gashes Creek Road.
