Furman police officer hit by stolen truck in Greenville, university officials say

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) - Furman University officials said a campus police officer was injured after his vehicle was hit by a stolen truck on Friday on White Horse Road.

According to Furman's News & Media Relations Director Vince Moore, Furman Police Lt. Victor Rivas remains in an area hospital following the crash, and suffered multiple fractures to his face, clavicle, wrist and ribs.

Rivas' car was destroyed in the crash.

According to Moore, the driver of the stolen truck ran from crash and has not yet been identified.

"Fortunately, Victor was wearing his seatbelt and his vehicle was equipped with front and side airbags, which likely saved his life," Furman Chief of Police John Milby said. "Victor is facing a lengthy recovery, and we welcome the prayers and support of the university community."
