CHEROKEE Co., S.C. (WSPA) — Authorities say a Gaffney man was shot and killed during an alleged home invasion early Friday morning.

The coroner identified the man as 41-year-old Charles Shannon Alley.

Witnesses say Alley was armed with a shotgun when he pushed his way into a home on Piney Knob Drive in Gaffney around 3:25 a.m. Friday, Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said in a statement.

Fowler said Alley allegedly began fighting with a resident and threatened to harm two others at the home.

“While engaged in the altercation, Alley was allegedly shot in the head by the female resident. Another unidentified male subject who was with Alley is said to have fled after the shooting according to witness accounts,” Fowler said.

Alley died at the scene.

Tim Anthony and his girlfriend live in the home, and Anthony confirmed that Alley had made angry threats about a car he bought from him a few years ago.

Anthony told us he was making good on those threats and knocked on the door around 3:30 Friday morning.

Anthony answered the door with a pistol in his hand.

“As he opens the door two person barged into the home they got into a fight … they both had weapons,” Mueller said.

Anthony said they pushed the door so hard it left this hole in the wall.

That’s when the sheriff said Anthony’s girlfriend got another gun and shot and killed Alley while the second man took off.

“If it wasn’t for her doing what she did, I wouldn’t be standing here right now,” Anthony said.

Investigators are searching for a second suspect.

A description of the second man is unknown, as both he and Alley were wearing masks.
