CHEROKEE Co., S.C. (WSPA) — The coroner said a Gaffney man died following a crash on Floyd Baker Boulevard.

The victim is identified as Justin Mitchell Peterson, 20, of 800 Beech Street.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said Peterson was a passenger in a vehicle hit by a pickup truck on Sunday evening.

The vehicle Peterson was riding in was turning left on Walton Drive when it was hit in the passenger-side door by a truck headed east on Floyd Baker Boulevard, Fowler said.

Peterson was trapped in the vehicle.

“The intrusion into the vehicle from the truck’s impact was more than a foot which trapped the victim.  It took fire and EMS personnel more than 30 minutes to free him from the vehicle,” Fowler said.

Peterson was pronounced dead on arrival at Cherokee Medical Center.

He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
