ATLANTA (AP) – Authorities in Georgia say a man suspected of driving under the influence led officers on a 125 mph (201 kph) chase before crashing into a trooper’s cruiser.
Georgia State Patrol told news outlets the chase began early Saturday when police spotted a Mercedes-Benz going about 50 mph (80 kph) over the speed limit on an Atlanta highway. Authorities said the driver refused to stop for two state troopers.
Patrol spokeswoman Stacey Collins told news outlets the suspect hit one patrol car on its side but another trooper was able to box him in and stop the pursuit. Police said alcohol was likely a factor.
Police haven’t identified the suspect, but said he suffered minor cuts to his hand. Nobody else was injured.
Charges hadn’t been finalized over the weekend.
