(WSPA) – Gov. Henry McMaster has ordered the removal of all members of a the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Richland County effective immediately.

According to McMaster’s executive order, the removal of board members stems from several county-wide voting and election process problems including:

  • 2010 certification of incorrect election results after 1,100 votes were not counted
  • 2012 failure to deploy enough voting machines resulting in lengthy lines and missed deadline for vote certification
  • 2016 need or assistance after missing a recount deadline in the 2016 primary

The State Election Commission also determined that in November 2018 that 1,040 votes that were cast on Nov. 6, 2018 were not counted. The Richland County Elections Commission Director resigned on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 after the findings came out about the votes not being counted.
