Grandmother dead, child found safe after going missing in Greenville Co.

UPDATE: Greenville Co. deputies say missing 3-year-old Carter Bernhagen has been found safe but 60-year-old Burnette King has died.

Deputies say Bernhagen was checked out by EMS and has been sent home with his family.

Search teams found the golf cart the two were reportedly inside in the Reedy River shortly before 9:00pm, according to the sheriff’s office.

GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – Greenville County Sheriff’s Office says an active search is underway for a missing woman and her 3-year-old grandson.

According to sheriff’s office news release, deputies are in the 300 block of Sullivan Road searching for Burnette King, 60, and Carter Bernhagen, 3.

King and Bernhagen reportedly left on a “Tar Heel” blue golf cart Wednesday morning at around 11 a.m. heading to visit a nearby creek, and the pair has not been seen since.

Deputies are currently using K9s and air support to search for King and Bernhagen.

Search teams found the golf cart in the Reedy River shortly before 9:00pm, according to the sheriff’s office.

The swift water rescue team and dive team have been called to the scene to help search the river.

King is described as being 5-foot-8 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds and has gray hair and hazel eyes.

Bernhagen is described as being 2-feet-tall, weighs 25 pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes.

Anyone who has seen King and Bernhagen or anyone with information is asked to call 911 immediately.
