GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Saturday marked one year since Greenville Police Officer Allen Jacobs was shot and killed in the line of duty.
The community has united over the past week to honor Jacobs’ memory with various events including a prayer breakfast at Bob Jones University.
On Sunday morning, Morningside Baptist Church held a special “Blue and White Sunday” service to remember Jacobs and honor all law enforcement officers.
Assistant Pastor Steven Huffman says Jacobs used to go to church at Morningside when he was a child. He also says Jacobs’ wife Meghan and their daughter plan to be in attendance along with several Greenville Police Officers.
The service began at 10:30 a.m.
Jacobs was a veteran and father of two. At the time he was fatally wounded, his wife, Meghan, was pregnant with the couple’s daughter.
Meghan Jacobs released the following statement on the church service:
The Morningside Baptist Church did an amazing job this morning. Not only did they honor Allen but they honored All Law Enforcement to show the appreciation and the amount of support they have among the community. For everyone that attended this morning, Thank You.
That was just one of the things I enjoyed about this morning. It wasn’t just about Allen, Me, his children or his family, it was about the men and women who put their lives on the line every single day with not knowing what that day will bring or if they will even make it home. I’m thankful for each and everyone of you.
To Pastor Crockett and Pastor Huffman, thank you for an amazing service.
Dan Beadles, you did an amazing job organizing the service with the assistance of many others. Thank you for your service as well as the steps you took to make this day special for me and my family, including our blue family.
Joan Hill, Carolyn and Amy Cox, the flowers were beautiful as well as the decorations. Thank you.
Kelly Riggs, Thank You for your kind-heart, your hard work ethic and the support you give to me and my family every week.
Senator Tim Scott, Congressman Trey Gowdy, Former Governor of SC who now is our U.S Ambassador, Nikki Haley, Thank You for all of your inspirational, supportive and charitable words that you all expressed in the tribute that was presented this morning as well as during the Hero Among Hero award ceremony.
Thank You Justice Kittredge for attending this morning’s service in support of our law enforcement officers by honoring every one of them including my husband and supporting my family. Furthermore, Thank You for your devotion to our state as well as the inspirational, supportive, and charitable tribute that was given this morning and given at the Hero Among Hero awards ceremony.
Again, thank you to everyone who came this morning to support all law enforcement and for the outpouring support you all continue to give to me and my family, especially in honoring my husband, Officer Allen Jacobs.
