Greenville Co. deputy hit with car, teen arrested

TAYLORS, S.C. (WSPA) – SLED has been investigating after a Greenville County deputy was hit by a car early Sunday morning in Taylors.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said the deputy responded at about 4:30 a.m. to check on a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot at 5201 Wade Hampton Boulevard.

The deputy got out of his vehicle and walked towards a black, late 90s, four-door model Honda in a parking lot, deputies said.

As the deputy approached the car, the driver started the vehicle’s engine and started to drive towards the deputy.

The deputy gave verbal commands for the driver to stop and turn off the car, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver ignored the commands and hit the deputy with the car, deputies said.

The deputy then shot at the car with his weapon, but the car took off at a high-rate of speed, according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputy suffered minor injuries to his leg from the incident, deputies said.

The sheriff’s office said they have arrested a 15-year-old driver on charges of Attempted Murder and Resisting Arrest.

The vehicle was also occupied by a minor female who has not been charged.

SLED and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate.

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact the sheriff’s office at (864) 271-5210 or Crime Stoppers at (864) 23-CRIME.
