Greenville Co. Schools debuts new food truck Thursday

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – The Greenville County Schools Food and Nutrition Services debuted their new food truck at the A.J. Whitenburg Elementary School Thursday, July 7th.

The bus parked at the loop at 420 Westfield St. at 10:00 a.m. and served dozens of hungry students, free mid-morning snacks and early lunches.

The menu included cheeseburgers with whole wheat buns, greens and locally sources fruits like watermelon and peaches.

This summer, the Greenville County Schools Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) is providing breakfast and lunch to thousands of students a week at 52 different locations.

The food truck is not only used to feed children free summer meals, but it will also be used as a unique lunch-time alternative during the school year.

FANS operates under the philosophy that “school food rocks,” and in the 2015-2016 school year, FANS shook up school lunch menus with sushi, St. Louis style ribs, Buffalo wings, a mac-and-cheese bar, a mashed potato bar, Latin Fusion tacos and much more.

They plan to give free breakfast to all students at 92 schools in the 2016-2017 school year.
