GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A man was sentenced on Tuesday to 22 years in prison for killing his brother.
According to a solicitor’s office news release, Ryan Cameron McBride, 33, of Greenville, was sentenced on a voluntary manslaughter charge.
Evidence from the plea hearing revealed that Ryan McBride killed his brother, Sean McBride on Jan. 4, 2016, in the home where Sean McBride lived with his mother and stepfather.
According to the release, Ryan McBride became angry that Sean McBride refused to loan him money and a fight began between the two.
Ryan McBride then assaulted his brother with a knife.
The solicitor’s office said Sean McBride was stabbed in the back of his lower right leg below the kneecap, which caused severe bleeding.
Sean McBride then reportedly became comatose and survived on a ventilator before he died on Feb. 5, 2016.
According to the release, Ryan McBride told Greenville County Sheriff’s Office investigators that he had taken 30 Lortab pills throughout the day leading up to the incident with his brother, and said he had been addicted to the drug for 11 years.
“A truly tragic case and is evidence of the collateral damage that opioid addiction is causing in our communities. We will continue to fight to get this horrific substance off our streets so that this family and our community will not have to endure another senseless act of violence.”
Ryan McBride will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
