GREENWOOD COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – Greenwood School District 50 officials said a student was charged Thursday after they reportedly made a verbal threat in a classroom.

According to a news release from Greenwood 50 spokesperson Johnathan Graves, the threat was reported by a staff member at Greenwood High School.

School administration called the school resource officer who started an investigation.

According to Graves, the student who made the threat was identified and charged by law enforcement.

Graves said the student will also be disciplined in accordance to the school system’s handbook.

“We appreciate the report made by the GHS staff member and swift response of law enforcement and school administration in dealing with this situation,” Community Services Coordinator Johnathan L. Graves said. “As always, we take these matters very seriously and are committed to providing a safe learning environment for our students and staff.”
