SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Spartanburg District 7 held a groundbreaking Friday for their new elementary school on Skylyn Drive.
The school will replace Houston and Chapman Elementary Schools, which were in need of major repairs. School officials say it will be state-of-the-art with the latest technologies to encourage learning.
Superintendent Dr. Russell Booker says the school is also part of a bigger plan for revitalization near Drayton Mill.
“Drayton has such a major role in shaping the history of this side of our community,” Booker explained. “This property of course was given to us as a gift from Pacolet Milliken, which goes to show they see the value in what quality schools and quality facilities can do for this.”
The school will open in 2018. A name hasn’t yet been decided on.
