(WSPA) — An Upstate nonprofit that provides therapeutic horseback riding to the community is asking for your donations during Kentucky Derby week.
HALTER stands for Healing and Learning through Equine Relationships. For more than 30 years, the program in Spartanburg County has provided an affordable therapeutic riding program that helps children with disabilities and students from the S.C. School for the Deaf and Blind.
HALTER is raising funds the week of April 30 through May 5. Inspired by a Kentuck Derby race that raises money for charitable causes, organizers will assign the jockeys a HALTER horse.
Mike Hollifield, executive director of HALTER, said they are raising money online to make it simple and easy for anyone to donate.
Companies will match donations up to $15,000.
