SPARTANBURG CO., SC (WSPA) – The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office says deputies had to use a Taser to arrest a drunk man holding a hatchet while wearing a backpack full of ammo.

Deputies were called to the scene initially for a report of a man with a gun on Dakota Street around 8:40 p.m. Monday. Later, the call was updated to say that a man had taken a gun away from another man.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found a man wearing a backpack and carrying a hatchet.

Deputies say they told the man to drop the hatchet multiple times but he refused while also stating that he wanted his pistol back.

Eventually, after following the man to a home on Wood Street, he was arrested after a deputy used a Taser on him.

The suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Teavy Tith of Spartanburg, was charged with resisting arrest with a deadly weapon public disorderly conduct.

Deputies say inside the backpack, Tith had a box of ammunition and numerous rounds of unspent ammunition along with an extended pistol magazine.

Tith is being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center on $5,257 bond.
