UNION COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – One woman was killed Thursday night during a head-on crash on Highway 72.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 8:07 p.m. on Highway 72 near Edwards Road.
Troopers said the driver of a 2011 Kia crossed the center line of the road and crashed into a 2003 Mitsubishi head-on.
The woman driving the Mitsubishi was pronounced dead that the scene. The driver of the Kia was airlifted to Spartanburg Medical Center.
The coroner’s office identified the woman as Laura Johnston Martinez, 63, of Blair. An autopsy has been scheduled for Saturday.
SCHP and the Union County Coroner’s Office will continue to investigate.
