Hear a boom in Greenville? It’s blasting for sewer tunnel

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – If you hear a boom in Greenville, it’s blasting for the Reedy River Basin Sewer Tunnel.

It’s scheduled to begin May 21 between the hours of 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Dig Greenville says the blasting schedule will vary but will happen two to three times per week for the next three months at the Westfield Street location. Then, construction workers will start blasting at the Cleveland park location before tunneling will begin.

They say the blast will be limited to once per day.

The tunnel will run 100 feet below ground between Cleveland Park and the Westfield locations. Project managers say the current system has nearly reached capacity.

The new tunnel should sustain Greenville’s growth for the next 100 years.
