GREENVILLE Co., SC (WSPA) – Greenville Co. are still searching for a man who allegedly pulled a gun twice after an incident at a Mexican grocery store off of White Horse Road on Tuesday.
Greenville County deputies say a man was trying to cash a check at Los Garcia in the 6000 block of White Horse Road around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday when an argument began.
“In Spanish he did threaten my manager that he was going to shoot this place up,” Juana Sebastian, an employee at Los Garcia, said. “I thought it was just a threat, but then as soon as he said that, he pulled out a revolver, stuck it under our window and pointed it directly toward her.”
Sebastian was working at the time and said the man was trying to cash a check that didn’t belong to him.
“It’s probably been the scariest experience. I mean who doesn’t get scared after someone pulls out a gun and points it directly at you.”
Cellphone video taken by someone in the business plaza showed a helicopter overhead, and deputies on the ground searching for the armed man who ran off.
“It’s clear he’s dangerous,” Greenville Co. Sgt. Ryan Flood said.
After the man pulled a gun in the store, a deputy reportedly came over to help. When the deputy tried to confront the man, he pulled his gun on the officer.
Deborah Mansell was eating lunch at a restaurant on White Horse Road when she realized the highway was being closed off to traffic, as a manhunt was underway.
“I heard one of the cops saying it was a guy with a gun and they gave a description of what he was wearing,” Mansell said. “Just looking out as we was eating, and seen the blue light sheriff’s office car go down the road flying.”
It took several hours before White Horse Road was opened back up, but the man is still not in custody.
Deputies said the man they’re looking for is Hispanic and in his 20s.
The man was wearing a dark gray T-shirt, blue jeans, tennis shoes and a black baseball hat.
Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 immediately.
