Hendersonville officer accused of driving while impaired placed on leave


HENDERSONVILLE, NC (WSPA) – A Hendersonville Police Department officer was placed on leave after he was charged with driving while impaired and was involved in a hit-and-run.

According to a news release from the City of Hendersonville, Officer Andy Massey was arrested by North Carolina Highway Patrol on Dec. 29 around 3 a.m.

City officials said police dispatch received a call about an abandoned vehicle that appeared to be crashed, and when officers responded to the scene and checked the vehicle tag to see who it belonged to they found that Massey owned the vehicle.

Officers called North Carolina Highway Patrol to investigate the crash.

Massey was charged with driving while impaired and hit-and-run with property damage.

City officials said Massey was placed on administrative leave with pay immediately pending an internal investigation by the Hendersonville Police Department.

Massey has been with the police department since February of 2012.
