MACON COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – Macon County Emergency Services officials said Junaluska Road near the Appletree Campground, River Road and Wayah Road in Nantahala have closed because of high water.
According to a news release, high water and flooded roads are possible in and along the Nantahala River area throughout Wednesday and Thursday.
“Spillway gates are operating at the Nantahala Dam but there is NO problem with the dam,” officials said. “The gates are operating properly to release excessive waters flowing into the lake.”
Officials said traffic is delayed along Buck Creek Road due to a slope failure, which has temporarily blocked one lane.
“Low lying areas and flood prone areas are beginning to see an increased risk of flooding. More rainfall is predicted today into tomorrow,” officials said.
Drivers are asked to not drive through flooded roads, and to turn around and don’t drown.
