Highway 25 reopens in Madison County as wildfire burns 300 acres

MADISON COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – Madison County Schools are closed Friday, April 22nd due to a wildfire in that county.

Crews had to shut down Highway 25 and Highway 70 because of the wildfire but the sheriff’s office tells us it is now back open.

US Highway 25 and US Highway 70 were also closed in Madison County near Hot Springs due to the wildfire. Drivers were being told to use an alternate route to get to Tennessee.

According to the NC Forest Service, the Silver Mine Fire has burned 300 acres east of Hot Springs. They say 15 homes are threatened by the fire.
