Human Legs Found in Downtown New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – New Haven police confirm to News 8 that they have located the remains of human legs near the train tracks at the corner of State and Court Streets.

Just after 11:20 a.m., police responded to the intersection of Court Street and State Street, near the State Street train station, on a report of human remains found. People in the area spoke with News 8 and said they saw body parts very close to the train tracks.

The witnesses we spoke to said the remains were found between State Street itself and the train tracks in some bushes. In those bushes there is a chain link fence to prevent people and animals from getting down to the train tracks. Near that fence is where the bottom part of two human legs were found.

Witnesses described it as mid-calf on down to the foot. Both a right and a left leg were found. They are presumably from one person, but that has not yet officially been determined. No other body parts have been found.

There is a large police presence in the area. News 8 asked New Haven police to make a statement, but they said they were not ready to make a statement on this case yet. Their investigation continues.

State Street is closed northbound between Chapel Street and Grand Avenue. Traffic is being diverted around the area. Southbound traffic on State Street is open.

State Street train station is closed while police investigate. Train passengers will have to disembark at Union Station in New Haven.
