(Rutherford County, N.C) Weather conditions are continuing to hamper efforts to put out a fast moving fire sweeping throughout North Carolina’s Rutherford County.
In a Thursday afternoon press conference, Governor Pat McCrory said the low humidity would keep the fire burning well into the night and beyond. The fire has more than doubled in size to about 900 acres since flames were first spotted near Lake Lure.
300 firefighters from across the state are now on the front lines working to extinguish the blaze. 100 of them are with the North Carolina’s Forrest Service.
Nearly 50 people were evacuated from the area. Governor McCrory declared a state of emergency Thursday, making the region eligible for federal funds.
