MCDOWELL CO., NC (WSPA) – McDowell County officials confirm that Interstate 40 has reopened in both directions at the top of Old Fort Mountain after a landslide.
On Tuesday night, the N.C. Department of Transportation shut down both sides of the interstate at mile marker 66 near Old Fort.
Westbound traffic was previously stopped at mile marker 81, which is the Sugar Hill Road exit due to the landslide on Old Fort Mountain.
A flash flood warning is still in effect.
Evacuations have also been ordered for residents below Lake Tahoma in McDowell County.
