I-85 chase ends in crash on Pelham Rd. after deputies stopped chasing suspects

SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – Two suspects crashed on Pelham Rd. after a chase on I-85, according to Spartanburg Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Narcotic investigators saw a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot at Motel 6 at Highway 221 and I-85 on Wednesday.

They said it was a Hertz rental car and and there was evidence inside that the suspects were committing crimes because there were numerous hotel room keys, a computer, a printer, fake ID’s and social security cards.

They say the evidence was visible from outside the car. 

Deputies watched the car until a woman driver and a man got in the car and pulled out of the parking lot.

Investigators tried to stop the car on I-85, but the car accelerated.

During the chase something was tossed from the car around Fairforest Rd. in Spartanburg County.

They searched the area, but didn’t find anything.

Deputies ended the chase at the county line and later found out the suspects got off I-85 onto Pelham Road and crashed.

South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 11:35 a.m. 

A 2007 Lincoln SUV and a 2017 Dodge SUV were traveling east on Pelham road when they collided, troopers said. 

The driver of the Dodge SUV got out of their vehicle and ran away from the area on foot, according to SCHP.

Troopers said that no one was injured in the crash and that no one has been charged at this time. 

The sheriff’s office is continuing investigate and trying to identify the driver and passenger.
