SPARTANBURG Co., S.C. (WSPA) — An Inman man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl.

Hunter Marquise Butler, 20, is charged with four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said the alleged crimes came to light after the victim’s mother found inappropriate communication on her social media accounts.

Deputies say the victim disclosed that Butler sexually assaulted her when she was 9 years old.

The incidents allegedly happened between January 2015 and September 2016, according to arrest warrants.

An incident report says the victim told investigators she was sexually assaulted multiple times at an Inman home.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the allegations last September.

Deputies say an investigator made numerous attempts to locate Butler. Once he was located, Butler declined to be interviewed by investigators.

Butler was arrested Thursday morning.

He remains in the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
