An Inman woman was charged after sheriff’s deputies say she falsely reported that she had been robbed by a man with a gun.

Kenasha Stewart was charged with filing a false police report by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. It’s a felony charge.

Deputies say they were called to meet with her Saturday after she said she was robbed by a man at Inman Fast Point on Asheville Highway. She claimed the man broke out the driver door window on her car and then left the scene on foot.

She traveled to a location on Campton Road to call deputies.

Spartanburg County deputies launched a large effort to search for a suspect, but say there were inconsistencies in what she told investigators.

Investigators say Stewart eventually admitted the robbery never took place. She told them she made up the story after a dispute with the father of her child.
