Lewis beats Loftis in Greenville Co. Sheriff Rep. runoff

News

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – Will Lewis has defeated incumbent Greenville County Sheriff Steve Loftis in the Republican primary runoff election, Tuesday night.

Loftis was seeking a fourth term as Sheriff.

Here’s the statement Lewis released after tonight’s election results:

I’m humbled by these results. Two weeks ago, everyone thought this was too steep a hill to climb, and that might have been true if it were just about a person. But this campaign has always been about more than just one candidate versus another. This campaign has been about whether our great county is prepared for the law enforcement challenges of the future.

I want to thank all of the volunteers and the voters who believed in our campaign and gave so much of their time and effort. It means more to our family than you’ll ever know. I want to congratulate Sheriff Loftis on running a strong and spirited campaign. I want to assure the people of Greenville County that while this campaign may have divided so many in the law enforcement family, we are all now united in a single purpose of serving and protecting the citizens of Greenville County.
