Police to charge man with arson, murder in 2007 Mauldin cold case

MAULDIN, S.C. (WSPA) – A man will face charges in connection to a 2007 cold case in Mauldin.

On Dec. 12, 2007, Mauldin Police say dispatch received calls for a fire. Once the fire was put out, the body of Debra Chisholm was discovered. An autopsy determined she had died prior to the fire being started, police said.

According to Mauldin Police, the cause of death was blunt force trauma and stab wounds.

After years of working the case, a documentary show called “Cold Justice” offered to assist. Warrants have been drafted for the arrest of Dwyane Taylor for murder and arson.

The Mauldin Interim Police Chief Miller said Taylor was Chisholm’s nephew.

“When Kelly came in she looked at the case prior to coming and realized hey everything is here we just need to tighten it up a bit and that’s what we did,” Sgt. Det. Robert Thacker of the Mauldin Police Department said.

He is currently in jail on other charges.
