Local athletes take field for Special Olympics

(WSPA) — Special Olympics games will be held Wednesday in the Upstate. 

Special Olympics South Carolina provides training and competitions to almost 29,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the year. The organization annually hosts more than 400 competitions.

The Spring Games for Special Olympics South Carolina Area 4 will be held in Greenville County.

Greenville police officers delivered the torch for the games at Furman University.  

Children and adults from Anderson County will also compete in the Special Olympics South Carolina Area 14 Spring Games.

Field and track events will be held Wednesday at Southern Wesleyan University.  

The state summer games are set for next month in Columbia.
